August 1st we celebrated our anniversary. And, since our schedules are hectic we had to be intentional to carve out some time away from everything else to get away and celebrate. Dear Heart was in charge of handling the details and he picked a bed & breakfast in Fairhope, Alabama. The Bay Breeze B & B is the spot he discovered doing an internet search. At first I was hesitant about finding a place on the internet. I mean, even a hovel can be made to look superior for internet purposes. But, Dear Heart had had numerous telephone conversations with owner Becky Jones so he was confident in his choice.
Friday afternoon the rain came down in Biblical proportion and it was slow going from Biloxi to Fairhope. Traffic was snarled. But, once we emerged from the tunnel near downtown Mobile the traffic seemed to clear and slowly the heavy downpour eased up.
If you have never experienced Fairhope you have missed out on a Southern treasure. It is filled with charm, history, great restaurants, coffee shops, galleries and other delights. And, it is on the Bay so water sports are thrown into the mix as well as lots of places to golf and play tennis.
The Bay Breeze B & B is located on the water which just added to its charm. The house and cottages are set back from the road and are shrouded by shrubs, trees and gardens. We had the Azaela Suite which was filled with centuries of family pictures and stories. There are beautiful gardens of ferns and flowers in the back yard as well as all sorts of critters, cats, dogs, a friendly crow, and ducks. From the back yard paradise you walk to the pier which extends 425 feet into the water. Under the covered area is a full kitchen and a great place to enjoy coffee and breakfast and great fellowship with the other B & B guests.
Dear Heart did a great job! And, he was so excited about his wonderful "find" that he announced that the Bay Breeze would be an annual treat. My vote is for us to try it again in the fall or the spring when the weather is just a bit cooler. But I am all for another sojourn to Fairhope. We highly recommend the trip to everyone!
Blessings!
